This Apple Rosemary Whiskey Cocktail combines piney simple syrup with apples to make a quick and delicious cocktail. It’s a great cocktail recipe to make for a party any time of year. Using a full rosemary sprig as a garnish is elegant and easy!

It’s party season and I’ve been researching games to play (besides Foodfu, of course!). I’ve discovered some new ones to add to our holiday traditions, like the seran wrap game. But I was also trying to find a game that had an apple theme. I stumbled upon an old game while making these Apple Rosemary Whiskey cocktails – apple bobbing. Did you ever play that as a kid?

I have a very fuzzy memory of maybe seeing it played but never doing it. I didn’t realize traditionally the game had it’s roots in matchmaking. Names would be on the apples so you would be setup based on the apple you caught in your mouth. Another variation says that the first person to bite into an apple during the game will be the next to marry. It sounds very much like a PG version of spin the bottle. My favorite little apple bobbing history nugget is that girls would put their bitten apple under their pillow at night because it would allow them to dream of their future soul mate. Wow, those are some magic apples! Maybe the rotting apples put off fumes to make people hallucinate?

I don’t think we’ll be apple bobbing anytime soon but apples continue to inspire us. We used them in these light and refreshing Apple Cider Mint Cocktails. Then we combined apples with whiskey and oh my! do they pair well! You have to try this Apple Rosemary Whiskey Cocktail.

Apple Rosemary Whiskey Cocktail Recipe

INGREDIENTS
½ cup apple cider (if you want to DIY, juice 1 1/2 apples)
½ tbsp rosemary simple syrup
1 oz. whiskey (we used Oregon Spirit Distillers Ottis Webber Oregon Wheat Whiskey)
Apple for garnish
Rosemary for garnish

Rosemary Simple Syrup
3 rosemary sprigs
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water

DIRECTIONS
To make the rosemary simple syrup add rosemary, water and sugar to a small saucepan. Cook until sugar is dissolved over medium heat, 4-6 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. Can keep refrigerated for up to 1 month.

To make the cocktail combine rosemary simple syrup, apple cider and whiskey in a cocktail shaker. Add ice, shake well and pour into an old fashioned or rocks glass. Garnish with rosemary sprig and apple slice.
